Default D16Z6

I have the opportunity to do the D16Z6 swap from a D15B7. Should I perform a mini-me or do the full swap? I get confused on buying parts. What if I wanted to get an exhaust or spark plugs? Yes, its a different motor but how would I go about buying the right one?

if you have the whole engine, due that, mini me's tend to have problems when not done correctly. basically, just buy parts for a 92 civic si, because that came with the z6. all honda oil filters are the same for d, b, and h series engines. the exhaust manifold is interchangeable (but they are different but will fit) between all d series, so buy a header for the year car you have. for spark plugs it will have a factory ngk number for the plugs on the timing belt cover, or just buy them for a 92 si.

my_hidden_romance, did you feel a difference between the stock engines of the D15B7 and the D16Z6? I've driven cars with both motors and feel a difference. The engines are interchangeable though right? This motor is coming off a Del Sol, and what is suppose to happen is just a switch in the engine. So, my old D15B7 will go into the Del Sol while the D16Z6 from the Del Sol will go into my civic. There wouldn't be any need of buying extra parts to complete the swap, would there?

if you have both cars to swap parts with, then you won't need to buy anything. you will need to wire in vtec in the civic though, only a few wires. get the del sol si trans too, it has closer gearing for better acceleration. you will feel a difference, but its not gonna be a huge difference

that should be it, you could also just take the engine wire harness for the z6 too so you only have to run wires on the chassis side of your car

Would the intake on the D15B7 fit on the D16Z6?

Is there a way to tell if the VTEC isn't working?

The intakes will work, however, if you swap the vtec you will want to keep the d16z6 intake. It provides a better air flow. And you could wire up a light to kick on whenever the vtec hits.
