Default d16a8 timing

ok my car has not had a smooth idle and would hesitate around 2 grand when leaving from a stop. I have been getting a cps code. I read up on it and found that it was a good chance it is the timing. I looked at it and it def. looked like it was off by a tooth. so i got it all lined up and now it idles nice but has no *** to it and when im cursing along it will spit and sputter. so my question is. still a timing issue. could my my cps actually be bad. (i hear that's rare) Any thing to do with the dizzy?

Timing belt skipping means that the rubber is worn out and/or torn up, be sure to put a new belt on.

Yes the sensor is probably bad. I assume you are still getting a CKP code. The OBD0 and OBD1 ECU's don't check if the engine is physically out of time or misfiring. Check CKP it for resistance and shorts to ground. It could also be a problem with the wiring not the sensor itself. The sensor is inside the distributor, not sold separately, the only official way to replace it is to replace the whole distributor. Make sure that the insulator plate is still in place under the rotor, or sparks can jump down to the sensors. You should just see a solid plastic divider when you take the cap off.

After you have the cam in time, spark timing also needs to be set with a timing light for proper performance.

ok i had the d16a8 pout in the car last year by a friend. timing belt was replaced at that point. the belt is fine. no rips or warn teeth. the belt isn't skipping the engine is. after the motor was put in it never did idle 100% and when you where leaving from a dead stop. once you hit about 2g the car would almost die then rev up and take off and throwing code 9 for CYP. so i did some reading and they say the cyp doesn't usually go bad. could be timing issue. so i took the top of the timing cover off and saw that one cam looked to be a tooth off. re did timing and that's were im at. Also the cyp in not in the dizzy on this motor is separate. if i unplug the cyp it doesn't make a diff. however i believe i read if timing is off than can happen.
