ORIGINAL: jdmhatch

put the bar on the bolt so that when the motor turns it turn the bar to hit floor the bar will stop on the floor and loosen the bolt
um, no,

The engine turns counter clockwise, so no matter how you hold the breaker bar, the act of turning the motor over, will tighten the bolt.

I jammed a screwdriver in the crank pully, or maybe it was an open end wrench.. either way you have to find a way to hold that pulley still.

i had to use a 3 ft pipe to get that sucker lose, and even with the pipe, it took a lot of strength.

Get a long entension so you can put some real pressure on the bar, put a jackstand under the end of the extension, and use a cheater pipe. that's how I get axle nuts off, get the socket on the bolt, set up the jackstand, stand on the cheater pipe, and bounce.. works everytime.

i've done this a lot.
there are holes in the pulley. i use a bar that is a piece of rebar. i would say it is 3/8 inch in diameter. put thru the hole and under the lip of the engine right under the oil pan.
would be nice to have 1/2 drive, but i only got 3/8, except for my torque wrench (which is not suppose to be used for that purpose).

i use a cheater bar that is hollow that the rachet fits into.
turn counterclockwise.
it usually is hard, but it works.

found out boss is going on holiday next week, gonna bring it in to work and loosen if off there.
i had a 1/2 breaker bar on it (2&half foot long) and i was swinging outta it - was afraid i'd jump the timing with the crank, so might've been restricting myself - thanks lads, some good tips though!
