Default Coolant Problems

Hi,
I have a problem with my 99 EX where it blows out all the coolant in the radiator. Under normal driving it's not so bad, but on a hot day with the AC on it sprays radiator fluid everywhere out of the coolant reservoir. On long trips I have to stop after about 200 miles or so the engine starts over heating, and I have to re-fill the radiator.

I replaced the thermostat with a stock OEM replacement, but I was wondering if a low temp thermostat would solve the problem. It looks like the thermostat is not opening soon enough.

Through more aggressive driving on mountain trips I stop and it sounds like there is a coffee maker in the engine compartment. The reservoir is bubbling out steam and the radiator is empty.

When I bought the car the guy said he replaced the radiator. I'm wondering if he put the wrong radiator in there or something. He said it was a OEM replacement.

Any ideas what the problem is?

how does the radiator cap look...does your fans come on??
i'd change the cap and the thermostat and fluch your coolant system.. if that dont work then it looks like a head gasket..

Next time your car is either making bubbles in the reservoir or shooting out steam while the car is running, smell the bubbles/steam, if it smells like exhaust its your head gasket.

I don't think its the radiator cap, it looks clean. As for the fluid I refill the radiator at least once a week so the fluid in there is fresh. I just did a compression test on the motor
#1 - 190 psi
#2 - 170
#3 - 190
#4 - 175

The 20 psi difference between 1 and 2 is 10.5% which is not too great...

I'll check the vapor coming out of the coffee maker when its brewing and see if it's exhaust. It could be the dreaded head gasket... Hopefully the motor will hold together until December I have a B18C spec R lined up from a friend in Japan.

Anyone want a D16Y8 to rebuild?

It wouldnt need a rebuild, just a head gasket which is easy but time consuming lol

Well its got 171k on it, so add a clutch, timing belt, water pump, and a transmission overhaul to the head gasket replacement. It wont be so bad with the motor out of the car though
