Default Clutch problems

I have a 96 ex that the previous owner put a d16y7 in, so I don't know the exact milage. He claimed less then 60,000 but the engine looks like it was run quite longer then that. There are about 107000 on the odometer.

Whenever I take off from a parked position and especially when driving up a steep incline, my clutch makes a grinding sound and it smells like it is burning. At normal driving speeds and highway driving there doesn't seem to be any grinding. This just started happening out of the blue. There were no signs leading up to this.

Is it time to replace the clutch?

Sounds like your clutch is starting to slip and burn. If you have a tach and see the rpms go up suddenly when you floor it but the car isn't going faster, that also confirms it. These are normal signs that the clutch is worn out and needs replacing.

I haven't noticed the rpms going up yet. I will try that this evening.
I figured it was the clutch going out, just want some input from the more experienced.

I am not having any luck with that car this month. The ac compressor seized up on me 2 weeks ago. It seized so hard that it killed the engine at highway speed.
