naw dude. definately replace the axle. cause if u just replace the boot you could also have other problems with the joints as well b/c the boot isn't allowing the joint to get the lube it needs. a stock one from the honda stealership would cost about 150. but yeah dude go to like ebay or advance or autozone. GEt in the Zone!! AUTO ZONE!!!!!!lol anywho. just repalce the entire axle tere is so many piecees tho you hafta disconnect and so many pins and ****. might take you the better part of an hour or if your a noob maybe take u about 2-3. never know.

Well i went to a Honda dealership yesterday to get my oil changed because i refuse to change my own oil when its 20 degrees outside lol. They said my outer cv boots are torn open and i believe they lubicated my cv joints also cause they dont make the clicking noise anymore. My question is can i just replace my boots and lub up the joints? Should that fix my problem?

Yep thats fine, don't know where this new axle stuff came from, replace the boots and your fine.

Common thing with older civics over here, costs about 25 quid to replace the boots and its sorted.

The only problem with having ripped CV boots is they tend to fill up with dirt and stuff if you drive it like that for any length of time. Even if you replace the boots and repack the joint, it's going to go faster than usual because the dirt is in there.

Well i looked at them personally yesterday and they are basically unrepairable both sides are ripped in half and are caked with dirt and grease. How hard is it to replace? Im trying to understand the whole part here, the cv boot covers the cv joint and the cv joint is attached to the cv axle and there is a cv axle for each side right? Sorry ive never had to do something like this before.

just grab a manual at the parts store. it'll show you how it's done. there's one axle assembly for each side. just be sure you buy the correct side because the shaft length is different. the key items are you remove the wheel, axle nut, the joints, and slide the axle from the wheel assy. then you coax it out of the tranny. the inner cv shaft is held inside of the actual tranny by a clip. it sometimes takes a little prying(be careful not to damage the tranny housing), but it will pop out. the whole thing comes out as one piece. you'll see how easy it is once you get it out. when you put the new one in, just take your time getting the splines lined up on the new inner axle shaft to the tranny. the only tricky part is getting a good angle on installing both ends because their is no good area to use a soft mallet. but hold your tongue right and be careful with the new boot areas, and you'll do fine.

Hmm seems easy enough. Im going to replace the boots first and clean up the joint and relub it up and see if that fixes the problem, hopefully my friend will let me use his lift this weekend. If that fails ill just replace both axles but im kinda short on cash at the moment.

Well ill just bring this thread back to life instead of making a new one. Couple of weekends ago i tried this product called a quick-e boot. Basically you cut the old boot off and you put the new one on using screws and clips. Basically i can tell you its a pain in the @ss to use those quick-e boots. They didnt even fit right and i had to silicone the cracks to get a decent seal. Anyway, clicking was still there after i cleaned the joints and re-greased them but wasn't nearly as bad. As days went by the clicking has become worst and im just going to replace both axles. Im thinking about just going to take it to Midas since is next door to me and they have always done good work for me and actual done some free work for me too. They want 200 for labor to do both sides and honda wants 260 for both sides. Im trying to decide if i want to go with re-mans or brand new axles from Cardone, both have limited lifetime warrantys. What do you guys and gals think i should do?

I think you have found a damn good price for those bad boys. i was told to do both sides for it it would cost 150/ axle and then a hour apiece at 80 per. so it would be almost 500. after taxes. good luck with that man. dman where do you live ta?

I live in south west michigan. Just bought the axles yesterday for 60 with 35 core charge. Had to buy re-mans though because none of advanced autos companys sell new axles for non-abs 6th gens.
