Car Accident: Need New Body Panel
Hey Everyone,
Last week I did a 180 on the 401, (highway), and bashed my car in bad. I was looking for a new body panel that would fit the damaged spot so hopefully the body shop wont charge me as much. Does anyone know any good sites that sell a body panel as big as I would need it?
Thanks

You need a new quarter panel. That has to be welded in. Figure 1500 for parts, labor and paint. I dont even want to know why you did a 180, because normal driving does not cause that to happen.

A little bit of rubbing compound and it will buff right out. J/K
Damn, Are you O.K.?
You might be able to get out cheaper if you get it welded back in then YOU do the prep work before paint. Some times you can save a few hundred by doing the bondo/sanding/primer yourself. Just an idea.

I can't count the number of times somebody pulls out in front of me, or cuts me off on the free way, or tailgates me which is the worst in my book, and one of these days a tailgater is going to buy me a new car, and a couple weeks off from work... I am prone to slam on my brakes for imaginary objects in the road when there is someone tailgating me... I'm just waiting for the right one, and i'll be living in a million dollar house and driving a bently...
Anyway... yeah man, don't know where you could get the panel, but my first choice would be to try and find either the whole panel, or a whole car for parts at a salvage yard, once you get in to yours there's no telling what you will find bent or otherwise broken, and an entire parts car could greatly reduce time and cost for repairing it... plus you could then part out the parts car and gain some, if not all of your money back... but if you just want the panel, find one and cut it out, then either weld it in yourself, or have someone do that for you.
The more work you do yourself, the less money you will pay a body shop... as long as you know what you are doing, and don't make a bigger mess for them to fix... If it were me, I would get a detailed damage appraisal, know exactly what needs to be done, and then go get parts... I would have the new panel welded in for me, then I would do all fo the body prep myself, and any mechanical repairs myself, then take it in for alignment and paint. that's your most cost effective route.

I was hoping I could just buy the panel off of the internet, but I guess I'll have to check out the scrapper.
BTW, my rear tires had metal showing, and I did a sharp left on the highway in wet conditions, maybe thats why I spun out.

With as many poor drivers as there are on the roads these days, driving faster and faster all the time, and thinking their big trucks and SUV's make them invincible because of size and weight, or their corvette because it is agile and fast, and complaining that gas is expensive, while they drive their massive V8 powered vehicles that they don't need..... I wouldn't doubt that somebody cut him off, or possibly he even had a blow out or any number of possibilities... I just drove 276 miles to visit family for the weekend, and man was that a fun trip on I-75 in georgia... there is an idiot in every crowd of cars... Like the vette that passed me like I was standing still at almost 85mph, which is 15 over the posted limit and traffic was still passing me... and the vette was wildly weaving in and out of car after car and big rig after big rig, with deadly drivers like that on the road you have to wonder why he spun out on the freeway???
