Can you rev passed redline in neutral?
Or would the rev limiter stop it? Cause I think I misshifted and its scarying the hell out of me. I was on the freeway ramp and I was in 3rd gear. Rpms were pretty high. I was shifting into 4th and what I thought happend was I let off the clutch too soon before I got it into gear and it went back into neutral and I hit the gas. The revs hit when I looked 8000rpm maybe a little more. The redline is 7400.. But now Im confused because the rev limiter would have stopped that so now Im thinking I misshifted into 2nd I dont know how but I think I may have. Ive driving stick for 2 years and have never had a problem going to 4th so Im really not sure as to what happened to get the rpms up.
The car starts and idles the same as before. Car runs the same but I think Im getting paranoid cause I keep hearing little things but it could be cause I have the music down and I keep listening for things. No loss of power or anything and I even hit vtec and shifted at 6000rpm and carefully shifted into 4th to make sure it was still good. No problems. I have driven the car about 50 miles since the accident and no problems. Is it ok?
Also I hear there is a way to check what the highest rev the car has gotten to. How do I do that? Im not very good with cars so if its complicated then nevermind.

The electronic rev limiter can only do so much to stop mechanical over revving. If you only went to 8k you should be ok. If you dont hear any tapping or knocking and the car is running fine you should be ok, no worries.
My buddy did the same thing in his teg once and was red lining 3rd gear went to hit 4th, missed and hit 2nd, sent the RPM's past 10 grand (only know this because this was 4 or 5 years ago when 5 inch monster tachs were cool) and spun a lifter right off the cam. Obvisous tapping sound from the head and all so if you dont hear anything then you should be fine.
