Brake Pad Shim sliding
Alright, so I recently did rotors/pads all around. Hawk HPS pads.
The problem I am having is that the shim on the outer pad of the front passenger side corner is sliding off of the pad and towards the center of the hub. It actually managed to slide all the way to the rotor hat and started scraping off the black paint on my brand new rotor (GRRRRRRRRR ).
So, yesterday I took the wheel off and went to put the shim back into place and I noticed my caliper leaking a lot of brake fluid. So, I replaced the caliper. Reassembled everything as normal and it worked fine. So today I check on the shim, and I can see that it's slowly working its way back to the center of the rotor.
Why is this happening? What do I do to make it stop?

I only know generic brand of pads and stuffs. And have not done brake jobs on cars lately.
So, I am just thinking, again.
Don't they come with retaining tabs any more??
Can you do away with shims?
How about using disc-quiet goop?

I did some googling and found the problem. It's a design flaw. The shims are glued to the pads and there are no retaining tabs or any kind of raised bump on the pad to stop the shim from moving. If the glue fails, you're screwed. Not the kind of quality I was expecting from Hawk. Never again. Brembo or something else next time.

I read that without the shims the brakes are louder. Is that not true?
Anyway, I'm just going to use the replacement ones I get in the mail either tomorrow or saturday. I should be able to tell if there's going to be a problem or not. With the one i've been having trouble with, the shim came unglued while handling the pad during installation. Probably just faulty, although it is rather lame that the only thing preventing this is glue. On my rear Hawk HPS pads there are actual little tabs on the back of the pad to keep the shims from moving if they come unglued. Really odd that the front ones aren't the same way. But then again, the ones I got had an entirely different design on the box from the box the rears came in, even though they are both HPS. I wonder if the front pads I got were the old version (I read on the internet the design was updated to prevent this from happening).
