Default brake noise

Alright as stated in an earlier thread I have a scrapeing metal noise from the drivers side front wheel. It would happen in short spurts when I made a right turn, but for the past two days it's been doing it even driveing straight. It would do it for a little while then stop.

I figured there was something stuck between the pad and rotor, or the pad is just worn out. But I went to change the pads today and inspect them but everything seems fine. The pads aren't worn uneven or anything and have quite a bit of material left. I still have my car up on jackstands, is there something more specific I should check?

does the sound speed up with your acceleration, or turning of the wheels?

did you notice a difference in the sound with a change of temperature?

I didn't really notice it till this spring... but I may not of noticed till then.

Yeah, it will speed up a little bit and then sound like metal against metal for a little bit then go away.

stupid question, but have you checked to see if everything is secure and in physical working order under the front left?

Everything seems fine that I can tell... would this be a sign of a rotor being warped? Thats kind of my gut feeling. I'm pretty sure they are the original rotors, my car has 130k on it and I don't think they have been grinded down at all previously.

they could probably use a little resurfacing or even replacing with original blanks depending on what width you measure on the stock rotors, but i'm not 100% sure (you can never be sure when it comes to noises). it's trial and error.

i wish people would post a video with the sound that people hear in their cars, this might help people on the forum help them.

That would prolly use up a lot of bandwidth, the trouble to go through bringing my camera along with me, picking up the sound, convert the clip so that it can play and run... blah blah

minus well just bring it to a mechnic just to figure out the problem then take it back and fix the problem myself.

If you rotors are warped, you will feel alot of vibration on your steering wheel when you brake at higher speeds like when you exit a highway and brake at the ramp. if it is not shaking the steering wheel when you brake, then it's probably something else.

I would try to spin the wheel with the car on jackstands and see if you can replicate the metal to metal sound. it could also be a bearing problem. also see if there is any play by trying to move the wheel top and bottom or right and left etc.

Could also be the sheet-metal backing plate behind the rotor is bent/damaged and touching the rotor sometimes.

it does shake a little bit when I brake hard, I just thought it was because of alignment and balancing. We had a rough winter.

I'll check the plate it did seem a little bent, but the one on the other side was also so figured thats how it's supposed to be. I haven't hit any curbs or anything, and try to dodge potholes so don't know why it would be damaged.
