Default blowing smoke

hey i just had a question about the engine on my 93 lx. whenever i start it, it kinda makes a chugging sound, and slowly movies up to about 2000 rpm's where it idle's for about 5 seconds, then drops back down 1000. it's also giving off an extremely large amoun of exaust, at first i just thought it was because it was cold, but even if the car's warm it still does it.

any help would be greatly apreciated. thanks guys.

here's some info to help with diagnosing what it is
Blue smoke= burning oil
Black smoke = Running real rich
white smoke = coolant... not the tricky part with this one right now is that since it is cold out it is hard to tell if it is steam or coolent cause steam will also be white... if it is coolent it should have a sweet smell. kinda like when melting sugar

yes there is a DIY on it. and if it is blue you might want to look at your head gasket because you do not want to warp your head.

a good way to tell is the steam will dissapear within a few feet. coolant will stay in the air and slowly for a while like fog

yeah it kind of lingers in the air... my dad thinks it's the head gasket... but i blew my head gasket like, a month ago, and its not doing the same thing. IF it was the coolant, what would be wrong?
