Default black smoke?

hey my honda civic 97 when i start IT I SEE SOME BLACK SMOKE COMING OUT NOT A LOT THOUGH, BUT IF I rev the car up i see a lot of black smoke, when i put the car in neutral it idles high, it's an A/T, can anyone tell me what the problem is??

Is the CEL on? (Does the CEL work?) Check the ECU for codes. Take the spark plugs out and check if just one is black, or all of them. Check fuel pressure with a gauge.

no my CEL isn't on and yes it does work, i checked the spark plugs all 4 where black, i cleaned them and gapped them 0.7mm. is the gap size correct?? where can i find a list of fault codes??

Check Engine Light.

Black smoke means excessive fuel from what I have seen. Follow the instructions which MK has provided.
