Default black box connected by pipe to air filter housing

hi,

i am sort of a newbie but what is the plastic black box above the transmission that has a black pipe that goes to the air filter housing?

is it easy to remove?

do i need to disconnect the battery to remove it?

i need to get it out of the way to work on something.

(my car is a 1996 honda civic)

what i'm talking about is on the lower left...the black box next to the engine and the black pipe coming from it are what i want to remove

It is a resonator for the intake. It makes the car quieter. You can disconnect the big hose at the filter box and test drive to hear the difference.
