I'm having trouble starting car in hot or cold wheather and then the check battery light comes on.this occurs for about 5 mniutes then it starts.When it does i notice quite a bit of smoke coming out the tailpipe.This occurs mostly in warm wheather.I recently did a tune up,cahanged s.plugs,cables,oil filter,rotor,distributor cap,fuel pressure reg.,fuel filter.I've added lucas injector cleaner and car still has this problem.What could it be?

 

What model year? If it's 1988-1995, the main relay often causes an intermittent, temperature related, cranks but won't start.

Once started, does it run and drive normally? What color is the smoke that comes out?

It's normal for the "battery" light to be on whenever the key is on but the engine is not running. Light coming on while the engine is running indicates a problem related to the alternator.
