All depends how much came out of the battery. Besides, you shouldn't put a new battery back in until you've solved the problem.

i had the same proble, well except i did not let the batt. blow up. anyways i replaced the batt. and walla. problem solved

Charging system can be checked at any auto-zone or other good auto stores, and they will remove your old battery and sell you a new one if thats the case, why not check both, since the check on the system is free :-)

Why people bring these threads back i dunno. I would guess that the voltage regulator in the alternator has gone to **** in this case. You wouldn't need autozone, just a voltmeter. Check the charging voltage at the battery (put the leads across the battery terminals while the engine is running). If the voltage is a steady 13.5 volts, it should be ok. If the voltage is jumping around w/o touching the throttle then the voltage regulator has most likely gone bonkers.
