Default Bad head gasket. What parts to replace?

I have an acquaintence that's going to replace the head gasket for me, but I remember he had mentioned other gaskets that should be replaced at the same time. Is that true? Are there other parts that would normally be replaced at the same time?

I trust the guy as he's done a water pump and timing belt for me already. I just don't have access to him right now.

Intake and exhaust manifold gasket are two that jump to my mind. You may want the valve cover gasket and spark plug tube O-rings replaced as well.

Edit: What year/model/engine do you have?

I'd take the head off with the manifolds attached, so no need for manifold gaskets unless you have the head machined and need to remove them. Also just reuse the valve cover gaskets until after you find the engine is OK with a new head gasket.

The head may need to be re-surfaced (may be warped).

The plan is to take off the head and have it checked and machined if necessary. I remember him saying something about the intake and exhaust manifold gaskets.

It's a 1998 Civic EX VTEC, 4 Door.

This is the site I'm using to buy parts. So far I have the intake and exhaust gaskets, as well as the head gasket ready to order but you mentioned a valve cover gasket and I can't figure out which part that is.

If you plan on having the head checked at the machine shop, u should take the manifolds off in which you'll want to replace the intake and exhaust gaskets. Any other parts may depend on what the machine shop says about you head. If they need to tear the valvetrain apart, you'll need some new seals like cam seal and whatnot.

So as of now, maybe just intake and exhaust manifold gaskets. Other parts might come after head inspection.
