bad cat?

bad cat?
Ok I know there have been a few posts on cat converters but I ran a search and didn't find a solution.
The past two days when I accelerated hard I smelt an egg smell which makes me think that my cat is bad. Searching around I read that an egg smell can be produced by a leaking battery or a vacum leak. But my car only did the smell a couple times right after I goosed it while driving. And goes away quickly after I'm done accelerating fast.
I don't really have the time to take my exhaust off and check the cat with a flashlight ( read ronj's how to ). But is there anything else I should look out for? Is this hands down a bad cat? Cause I doubt my battery is bad or I have a vacum leak in my intake manifold.
Thanks.

RE: bad cat?
shoot... you think it could have something to do with my transmission?
It doesn't seem that bad.. slips a little now and then. But if it is, does anyone know exactly what this means? Like will I need a clutch soon... or worse?

RE: bad cat?
True it could of been from a car infront of me... but it seemed prettyprominent inside the car, and I smelled it twice in the past two days. Usually it's a bad o2 sensor tho right,in whichmaking the cat converter go bad. But I don't have a CEL. Do you think with my fuel filter haveing a small leak that it will run lean and produce the smell?

RE: bad cat?
The leaking gas would have to drip on the exhaust manifold near the primary oxygen sensor to create a problem. Is this possible given that your leak is likely coming from the fuel filter?
I think you may be smelling exhaust coming from a car with a bad cat in front of you.
