Default Automatic Transmission problems

Hey Guys, My sons 91 Civic DX hatchback auto trans will not go into reverse when put into R. It's like it's in neutral, any ideas?

I'm also go to start looking for a used trans. What's the models and year of Honda's that I can look for a replacement for this 91 civic auto DX from a wrecking yard?
Hope someone has some answers

John

It could just be the cable adjustment. If you move the handle slowly all the way from park to neutral, does reverse ever catch?

Thanks for a reply mk378. I have tried moving the handle slowly and it doesn't grab. Here's the weird thing, it doesn't happened all the time, it may go into reverse tomorrow... By the way, I had the fluid changed to see if that would help. I was going to have a full flush done but the Honda Mechanic recommended against that. Said it could make things worst!

the 88 - 91 civic, crx, and there are one or two other models that are transferable, but i kinda have the same problem in my 91 civic dx going into park.i think it might have to do with the linkage.just something to think about.
