Another Synthetic vs. Dino Oil Question for My 06 Civic SI
I bought a 2006 Civic SI and I have always ran Mobil 1 synthetic in my Audi's with good luck. This car I bought with 20K in miles on it and I asked the dealer about changing over from conventional oil and he said Honda does not recommened synthetic oil in this engine. He did not say why and I found his statement to be highly suspect. I may add that this dealer has one of those "free" oil change programs for the life of the car programs.
So what gives, is this true that Honda frowns on synthetic oil for my car? If so, why? If not should I make the change?
Thanks everyone for your input.

No no no its not bad for seals and it doesnt keep vtec from kicking in. If someone has this problem after using synthetic its a coincidance. Ive used synthetic in my civic forever with no problems. Tight as a drum and vtec hits hard. The only diffrence between a base oil and a synthetic oil is that its been through all 5 stages of oil refining called "synthesis". This makes it more durable, heat resistant, and increases its lubricity. If an oil is causing a gasket to leak its because of the detergent additive package, not the oil base.
