Default Alternator help!!

My 2000 honda civic ex wasnt starting so my friend jumped it for me and it worked for 10 min. I turned off the car and tried to start the car and it isnt starting again so we think it is the alternator. I dont know which alternator to get for my car...I have a 10in kicker solo baric l5 sub with an eclipse xa5000amp. Any suggestions of alternators to get? Help me please!!!! I want to start working on my car but this is holding me back...

You tried to start after only 10mins of it running? If you live in a cold climate area and where the temps are starting to drop due to winter coming around, there's a very good chance your battery is just dead and can't hold any charge.

Test the battery first before you dump money on an alternator.

I would definitely take it to Autozome to get a free check/charge.

Yeah I'd start with the batter test. What battery is in there currently and how long has it been in there?

If the alternator wasn't putting out a decent enough charge, wouldn't the battery light come on? This is on the cluster I mean. I feel like the battery needs replacing as well. Get it checked out and let us know what happens.

I hope it is not bad manners to use someone else's thread for a similar issue...

I am very confused with my recent car problems - after a few hours of driving, my 01 civic's electronics stopped working or dimmed down and eventually the car shut off when the battery died. The alternator belt is fine and today I put in a new alternator and battery since the old one was shot. At first the alternator was putting out 14.4 V before I drove it. While I drove it around the block, I noticed that when I hit the brake, the speedo went a little crazy bouncing around and the engine seemed to run faster. When I stopped it and checked the voltage - the battery is putting out 11.4 and the alternator is about 11.6. This is boggling my mind. And yes, I checked the wiring.

Chain store "rebuilt" alternator? How far can you throw it? Some of them don't even go that far.

Yeah, one of those. I guess I will have to spend another saturday installing a new alternator. But what about the speedometer bouncing around and the engine speeding up when I hit the brakes? That is something I have never heard of.
