Default Alternator bad?

Car:
Honda Civic 1993 EX 4dr with 180,000 miles

Problem Symptoms:
The charge light comes on while driving(happens more when engine is warm), and the battery then drains to zero(car stops) after 20 minutes more of driving.
(this has only happened once, and therefore I cannot take it out )

When the charge light comes on the headlights, dash lights will progressively dim until the car stops.
During warm up, the charge light is mostly not on and the headlights, dash lights are all bright.
Sometimes the charge light will go out, and all lights get bright again, until the charge light comes on again then the hell begins again.

Which of the solutions sounds right?
1. Bad alternator
2. Bad 12V L-wire feed to alternator
Any other solutions?

Thanks.

You have an alternator problem. Your car doesnt really use the battery when its on. It comepletly runs off the alternator. Get another on or you will find yourself boned again on the road.

remington870_20ga, Thanks for the help. Is it better to just get a new one? Or spend the time to replace the brushes, as they are some of the few moving parts in an alternator?
