Yeah so I was insanely late for work and making an illegal and probably dangerous/stupid passing maneuver and accidentally ran the engine to about 7400 rpm (I believe redline is 6800). Should I be concerned at all? [&:]

I thought that redline on a 98 ex is that of a 92-95 ex, 7200. I dont think if you do it once is going to hurt any thing, but dont' do it again. The real damage comes when you hit 8000, some thing called valvefloat takes place.

I agree, I don't think it's a problem if you do it once.

Beats me, peak HP comes at 6600 and the red on the tach starts just a smidge before 7k. I thought I read 6800 somewhere but maybe not.

Haha yep exactly what I did. I was so busy watching the road ahead for oncoming cars and checking my mirrors to see if I was safely ahead of the people I was passing that I completely forgot about the engine.
