Hi everyone! I have a 2001 Honda Civic EX 2 Door 5MT.

All of a sudden, my ABS light comes on. It blinks very fast everytime i step on the gas. The light goes out when i come to a stop light or when i stop...

Its weird. I took it to a mechanic and he told me the ABS modulator is broke. But i really think its a speed sensor or something... Or a low battery? Or should i suck out my brake fluid from the regular brake reservoir + abs reservoir?

What should i do? I went to quite a few places, but they all want to charge me just to check my car out...........The one mechanic i went to said i have a bad modulator and its not worth changing and i should just pull the light bulb out..

Do you guys have any other suggestions? Please help...

Should i suck out the brake fluid from BOTH reservoirs and replace with new brake fluid?

Should i change the battery?

Oh yea, this all started when my car battery died...

I push started my car because its a stick shift. Then my SRS AIR BAG light came on.

I read online to change the battery WHICH I DID... And the SRS LIGHT goes out.

Everything is fine for a few months... This the ABS light comes on + the SRS light.

Now my ABS LIGHT + SRS LIGHT BOTH comes on everytime i drive.

My ABS light is yellow and blinks continously whenever i step on the gas.

My SRS light is red and just stays on...

 

Disconnect the battery for a while to reset the computers. Make sure you have the codes to reactivate the radio and the theft alarm if necessary.

If the lights come back on you'll need to have the codes pulled. No sense guessing which part you need without pulling the code first.

When those lights are on the systems are generally going to be inoperable. Slam on the brakes and you'll skid just like a car without ABS. Crash and the air bags may not come out. So get it checked out.

 

What exactly is the CODE SCANNER for ABS called?

Do you think they have one at PEP boys? or Autozone? TO check my codes for free?

 

Those scanners won't retrieve either ABS or SRS codes. You would need a Honda scanner.

Edit: There is a simple jumper wire method for some 2001 models but, to retrieve ABS codes, you need a DTC terminal box.

that sux...hmmmm.... So where should i go fora mechanic that has a honda scanner? Do you guys think i could take it to a honda dealer and have them check it for me for free? or what should i do? please help...

 

I don't think the Honda dealer does anything for free. I edited my post to show how you can retrieve the SRS code; however, you'd likely have to bring the car to Honda ($) to retrieve the ABS code.
