Unhappy 98 LX auto. Stumbles during acceleration then VROOM!

Thats it folks.. waaaaaaaaaa..ugh.......WAAAAA If that makes any sense Sometimes just while maintaining speed it'll hesitate, most of the time I can get past it by pressing a little harder on the peddle. But its really strange that it stumbles and then gets this blast of power... Plugs, wires ,cap, rotor, air filter, fuel filter, oil and filter all new. Recently cleaned out IAC with throttle body cleaner which solved erratic idle problem, possibly something there? expensive.... Engine is throwing no codes, fuel economy is down quite a bit, possibly fuel pump?...expensive Cant think of anything else it could be. This is KILLING ME! Could it possibly be an O2 problem with no code? Thanks in advance!

Have you checked the ignition timing with a timing gun?

Might also be worth doing a Seafoam treatment on the gas tank and intake manifold.

I have no idea how to check timing, but I would think that would be a constant thing if timing was off, it doesn't ALWAYS do it just most of the time. Its strange, I changed the fuel filter the other day, and it felt like it went away...then it came back.

CEL does work, tested by pulling MAP. Reset with my scangauge. Ill try seafoam, but I have never had luck fixing mechanical problems with bottles of cleaner.

I suggested two inexpensive ideas that could identify or solve the problem. Seafoam can be purchased at Walmart for $5-$6 per can. You may be able to rent an inductive timing light from a local auto parts store.

You might also try:

1) adjusting the valve clearance

2) test the coil and ICM in the distributor

3) measure cylinder compressions

4) analyze the performance of the primary O2 sensor using a scan tool

5) check the fuel pressure regulator
