98 civic wont redline??
ok, im new to the forum, i thought this would be a good place to chat about my 98 civic
first off i have a 1998 hond civic ex two door coupe, 1.6 vtec
i bought the car i like it it runs good i just have a few questions and cant find answers
i would like to ask what the normal redline would be for my motor, the previous owner swapped the dashboard and im not sure if its the right one, it says it redlines a little after 7?? is that correct, my motor really only runs till about 5.5 or 6 at the most, i was told it could be a restrictor or governor?
the car was in a accident and the previous owner was a mechanic, he put a 1.6 vtec back into the car...
recent replacements, idle air control valve, vss, spark plus+wires, muffler, recent oil change..

There is an rev limiter on it. If I recall right, they usually won't redline if there is a check engine light on. Does your light work? It comes on for 3 seconds when you first turn the key.
Redlining the car isn't a good idea to begin with, but a 98 EX with a D16y8 engine should redline after 7K RPMs.
