why not? I dont see why it would hurt. If you are parking downhill, put it in reverse, vice versa.

I always put the emergency brake on no matter what. On autos its just a habit. On manuals i never put it in gear because i always forget to take it out of gear when i start the car, so when i let the clutch out after i start the car, it jumps forward and stalls and makes me look like an idiot and really bad driver.

I always put it in 1st. It the ebrake fails, your still not going to move.
