hey xmb28...im curious..would this happen if the clutch was shot?...any new tips on diognostics are great...i love learning..well about cars..cant say school is that much fun..lol

 

When the clutch is shot (I mean REALLY shot), you can usually still move the car (for a little while), but whenever you give it more than the smallest amount of gas, the engine revs freely as if it's in neutral (basically, the clutch disc is losing any and all friction with the pressure plate because it is so worn.) Eventually, you can put it in gear, let the clutch out, and nothing happens no matter how much gas you give it.

if the clutch was really shot, your wheels wouldnt lock up i wouldnt think. My old nissans clutch crapped out and it was just rolling barely, I almost didnt make to the shop on its own steam! But is interetsting is over the course of like 3 days is that it went from fine to gone. It was that quick

 

the clutch being shot and the e-brake locking up were two different ideas. It turned out to be that the brake was locked up, not a clutch problem. I'm pretty sure his clutch is fine.

 

I dont see why some people use the ebrake for anything at all. Well, unless you have a bad clutch of course. Mine is an auto and I never use the ebrake, nor on manuals, I just put em in gear when i go to turn the engine off

 

In the unlikely event that I am forced to drive an auto, I don't use the e-brake either; that's what Park is for. On a manual, however, I ALWAYS e-brake it and never park it in gear.
