97 Civic Not starting

so, are you saying that you could crank the car (spinning the engine over), but it wouldnt run? Then you replaced the cap and it started right up? If this is yes, could it be coincidence, since if you "just waited" it may have started anyway?

I tried starting it and yes it cranked over but didn't start. I replaced the cap at that time and it started right up. Coincidence is always possible but replacing it at the same time as it not starting makes it more likely. My theory is that there wasn't enough spark to ignite the gas.

Well hope thats your fairly easy fix. I dont think that is my problem because i have a recent tune up. (thats not saying the parts cant be bad) I too will try checking my spark the next time it doesnt start. Also, RONJ, do you really think the coil could be bad? It just seams, past experience, a coil usually has either a strong or weak fire. Some coils also run strong (normal) until they get hot then loose their fire.
