Default 96 to 93 Complete Drivetrain Swap question

Ok, here goes. Let me start off by saying i'm an auto tech professionally, so no need to try to make things simple for me, lol.... Anyway, here's the situation.

A buddy of mine has a 96 dx 2dr manual that was involved in a wreck recently, doing some major damage to the rear of the car. We have found a 93 dx 4dr auto on good ol' craigslist for super cheap (not a pretty car, but straght) that has a "possible" headgasket problem... as far as i'm concerned, the motor will be junk...

My question is will i run into any huge problems taking the perfectly good drivetrain from the 96 (OBDII) and dropping it in the 93 (OBDI)? basically what i'm wanting to do is make one decent car out of two, but i dont want to tell him to buy this 93 if it wont work fairly easily.

Most of my experience is in domestics, so any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

so basically, i want to take the motor and 5 speed from a wrecked 96 and put them in a 93 that is factory equipped with auto. the actual swapping doesn't have me too concerned, it's the possible difference in engine management i'm worried about.

TIA

the motor will be real easy to swap right in, just use the head and block and put everything from ypur old motor on it, now the trans swap.... it would be best to find any
92-95 manual swap. the new motor will bolt right up to the current auto trans.

Yeah if you want a simple daily driver just swap the engine (block and head) in and keep all the other parts of the 93. It'll bolt right in.

Then if you can find a manual 92 to 95 for parts, it is straightforward to convert from auto to manual. The body of the car is the same for either, everything bolts on.
