Default 95 vtec

Hi new to this forum have found some helpful tips recently I appreciate the helpful info.I recently bought a 97 ex & my son bought a 95 ex w/quite a few mods. However hebought it not running w/160,222 miles The guy said it sputtered & quit on interstate & he towed it home & decided to sell it He assumed the motor was gone & we bought it figuring the same.hauled it home & try starting it would start squeel then die ,sounded like a ac bearing seazing.dis mantled front of engine w/top timing cover off & still squeeling the timing belt tensioner is free waterpump looks free. tried disconnecting spk plug wires to prevent starting & dont make the noise unless it actually starts.BUT, now we lost spark... had it b4 disconnectig spk plug wires now gone have 12v to capacitor n spk????

well gotta go see ironman Ill check back later thanks

yes it has oilnot fresh,we are planing on putting new oil in b4 starting it once we get spark again. We really didnt expect it to come close to starting 1st time we cranked it just wanted to hear what it was doing!ImWe re just befuddled how we lost spark by disconnecting plug wires letting them hangtogether they werent touching ground & they are wellinsulated ?? Does anyone knowhow to check the power module in the dist.with anohm meter?

Sometimes pulling the plug wires can damage the coil. Here are some tests for the distributor and coil:

Thanks for the link thats awesome! I downloaded it, excellent & free!Wetook the reading on the coil & it may be bad.HoweverBefore we spent $ ona part wedecided to pursue thesqueeling noise.especiallysince it seemed to be inside the motor. My sonpulled the pan & pulled the cap of one of therod bearings. It is razor thin & scortched.I ve never heard a motor sound like that ,mine have always started knocking w/a bad bearing. So although its tempting to dig into that motor my son would love to rebuild one ,the cost of parts & machine work & time involved. Not having a garage to work in.& still have to get spark back.We are looking for a used motor D16z6 withreasonabe miles or anyD series should fit we re told by local customshop.if anyone has one not too far away from NC let us know?thanks for all the help! we ll let you know how it works out!
