94 Civic EX 2DR Auto - Dies on Downshift
Hi everyone... I've done some searching and noticed some things but nothing that seems to fit my issues....
As the title states it's a 1994 Civic EX 2DR, Auto and when driving if I give it a bit extra throttle to get it to downshift then it kinda chugs and tries to die. However, I can downshift it manually with the shift lever and it's fine. I've heard everything from Shift Solenoids to Torque converter for possible issues (car and motor both were recently washed and detailed) but nobody seems to be able to justify why they think what they do....
so anyway, thoughts? Ideas? Questions?

A chugging / shaking / sputtering suggests that the engine is misfiring. Could be starving for gas (clogged fuel filter) or weak sparks. If someone has washed under the hood there might be water in the distributor or spark plug wires shorting out the ignition.

I had considered that but I figure if it's a spark or fuel issue then it should be very prevalent under quick acceleration and it's not. The only time I notice it is when it downshifts.... IDK, I feel like I'm missing something so I may let it sit or pull the shift selenoids and check for water.... I figure, in theory, if it's a water issue then by Monday it should go away so unless someone has some other ideas I may just be patient for once lol
