Default 93 Civic Si Coupe

Hey

I just wanted to know if theres a difference between the 93 Civic Si Hatchback engineand the 93 Civic Si Coupe engine.

Thismorningwhen I was driving theengine just suddenly stopped and I took itto a mechanic and he said therewas a problem with the distributor.. So hetried 3 distributorsfor a 93 civic si and none of them worked..

I noticed thatwhen I was looking for 93 civic si parts... they always showed the parts for the hatchback... So I was thinking maybe the mechanic got a distributor for the hatchback instead of the coupe..

The mechanic said that the engine might have been replaced but I think he just got the wrong part..

Any help would be appreciated..
Thanks

I don't think there's such thing as a 93 Civic Si Coupe. They were only available as hatchbacks.

Possibly the previous owner stuck an Si badge on it to think he's cool?
Si and EX share an engine, DX and LX share an engine, and CX has it's own 8 valve engine. (this is regardless of body style - except for that Si only comesas ahatchback)

Do you have VTEC? This will tell us if you have the Si or EX. (D16Z6 engine)

Does is not have VTEC, but has 16 valves? This will tell us it is DX or LX. (D15B7 engine)

Does it have 8 valves? This will tell us that it is a CX.(D15B8 engine)

If you have a CX, DX, or LXwith a fake Si badge on it, this would explain your problems.

This link will help you find out what engine you actually have. It will be engraved on the block. Read the first post. https://www.hondacivicforum.com/m_270258/tm.htm

(disclaimer - this isall assuming this is a USDM civic. With canadian, european, or JDM civics it could be different.)

I've seen other cars like mine saying Si on the back.. and the owners registration said 93 civic si.. Its a 1.6 L V4.. There is no Vtec sign tho..

for the eg's (92-95) the si only came in a hatchback... and it came with the d16z6 engine... along with the ex...

just look on the front of the block and see what the engine code is

there is no doubt that the coupe is not an si... i'm not sure why its on the registration, because honda didnt make a coupe si in 92-95, the ek is where the coupe si was made...

although if you are saying its a 1.6 L, the only 1.6 L engine from that year is the d16z6 which is the si/ex engine, it isnt a V4 though, its an L4

edit: the ex valve cover doesn't have "vtec" engraved on it... i have the engine in my car and vtec is not on my valve cover... quickest way to tell (other than the engine code) is look for the vtec solenoid, on the left side of the head

On the SOHC engines, if the spark plug wire holes are closer to the back (intake) side of the valve cover, it is non-VTEC. If they are close to the front (exhaust) side of the engine it is VTEC.

Also you can get the number stamped on the block, but someone may have switched heads on it.

if he has the 1.6L, then he has the same engine as the Si anyway, so the distributor for the Si should have worked.
