i have a 93 civic dx wit hthe 1.5L. it has 318k miles (no typo) and thinkin about saving money for a swap this summer. but for now, when i floor it it makes a rattling/knocking sound, what is it? and also it breaks down at stoplights sometimes and i got to keep my foot on the gas a little bit so it won't. oh and it makes another ugly rattling/knocking sound when i stay in place while the engine is on. can anyone else with one of my questions?

 

After turning the ignition key to ON, does your Check Engine Light (CEL) turn ON for a few seconds and then turn OFF or does the light stay ON?

In this case, there could be many different causes for your engine problem. I would start by checking for faults in your ignition system (spark plugs, plug wires, timing, distributor).

 

o ok then thanks... but by engine problems are you talking about the noises its making or the problem with it breaking down?

When one won't idle without pressing the gas, first thing is to try cleaning the IACV.

Maybe you have a bad engine mount causing it to rattle when the engine shakes.

 

may i ask wat the IACV is??
