You need to check the compression. You don't really know if the engine wasn't blown before you even got it.

Do the fuel injector connectors get battery voltage with the key in ON(II)?

Are the plug wires installed in the correct firing order on the distributor cap? Are the fuel injector connectors installed in the correct firing order on the rail?

What color is spark at the plugs?

yes its a 5speed d16z6 ecu. how sure are you on the timing? if the timing is on and its getting spark it should run when you put a little gas into it.

are there any wires or anything you question or have doubts about? i also suggest doing a compression test, what do the spark plugs look like?

no compression all the way across. plugs are all good and the timing is right on. thanks for the heads up on the ecu. is the d16z6 a tight tolerance between valves and pistons? bent valves assumed. anyway rings could blown bad enough to give 0 comp all across?

does it even have valves in it... are you sure the compression test was done right???
you gotta make sure you turn the engine over to make sure the valves are closed.

valv are there. it was turned over a few times on each. im lead to believe the test was done right. motor was 'running' 5 months ago when it was pulled according to the guy it came from.

It would be unusual to lack compression in all four cylinders. Was the engine fuel flooded when the test was done?

Spark color?

Firing order?

If the valve adjusters are turned down too tight, you will have zero compression.

When set to TDC1, the slot in the camshaft that drives the distributor should be vertical (relative to the engine, i.e. perpendicular to the top of the head). Put a metal rod in the #1 spark plug hole to feel the top of the piston and make sure it is at TDC when the timing mark says it is. Actually might be good to probe in all the cylinders and make sure the pistons actually go up and down.

Otherwise it looks like you'll be taking the head off to see what's going on.

done every thing suggested so far. ordered the head gasket set anyway. it all seems like it should work. it just doesn't. compression test may have been done with flooded engine. what would that affect? distributor sits in fine and wires are correct. thanks for the read through on that. couldnt really tell spark color but all fire as long as they are grounded.
