Hi all,

I just drove my 91 Civic Station Wagon from Houston TX to Boston MA. In the cold weather of Boston, I discover 2 problems. Wonder if you guys have experienced them before. And if so what's the solution?

1) The vehicle have no problem starting and running. But after a short run(less than 15 min), I cannot shift out of park. That is: Start the car, do short errands, stop (shift into park). Restart the car, and it willNOT shift out of park. Shut down, wait 5 to 10 min, and everything back to normal.

2) Same as above: After a short drive, shut down the engine. Can NOT remove the key. The key will only go back to "accessories" and gets stuck there. Wait 5 to 10 min, and key can be removed.

Neither of these 2 problems exists in Houston, so they seem to be related to the COLD weather. Any idea?

BTW, the gas mileage is still excellent, averaging 38mpg for the 1,900 miles trip from Houston to Boston.

 

For the key getting stuck, have you tried turning the steering wheel left and right while trying to take the key out?

 

The key gets stuck at the "accessories" position (middle) and can not be moved to the "off" position (left most) where it can be removed. So no, I did not try to turn the steering wheel.
