89 civic engine overheating takes lites out
sounds strange but my wife said at a stop in idle it zooms straight to the top on the temp gauge, and when it gets there the civic looses power.she then takes off at the lite, and the temp goes down, power seems ok,I flushed the 1.5L put in a new thermostat coolant, checked belts and hoses there ok.no check engine.
and after doing all above it still overheats.the fan is ok the senser than tells the fan is ok.NOW WHAT my email if you wish to reply is mpc-@live.com

So the fan runs but the temperature still increases? If the car has A/C, both fans should run when the engine is hot.
Shut the engine down immediately if it is overheated to the point where you "lose power". Really, stop before then.
