The OP mentioned in post #7 that the fuel pump primes, so the main relay is an unlikely culprit.

You are correct, though this seems to be a less common problem with the main relay. Your suggestion can be tested by checking for battery voltage at the fuel injector connectors with the key in ON(II).

Mechanical timing: Remove the valve cover and then the upper timing belt cover. This will expose the camshaft pulley. With the front end on stands and the transmission in neutral, you will then be able to turn the crankshaft pulley counterclockwise to see whether the cam and crank are still synchronized at TDC1.
In my opinion, it makes much more sense to check for spark and a snapped timing belt before going through this procedure of checking the mechanical timing. Just my 2 cents.
