Check the Main Relay !!!! Its notorius e****ally on 88-91 civics.....the solder points crack and they control the power to fuel pump and injectors..so bad main relay...car no starts...turns over but no fire.

The OP mentioned in post #7 that the fuel pump primes, so the main relay is an unlikely culprit.

RONJ...that may be true but through a different set of contacts inside the main relay it also controls the power to the injectors.....my fuel pump primed, but still wouldnt start.

You are correct, though this seems to be a less common problem with the main relay. Your suggestion can be tested by checking for battery voltage at the fuel injector connectors with the key in ON(II).

Have you checked for stripped timing belt yet? Then do the spark test. Then consider a fuel problem. The most common reasons for sudden death while driving are stripped timing belt or blown ignition coil.

How do I get the timing belt cover off? Is it complicated?

Mechanical timing: Remove the valve cover and then the upper timing belt cover. This will expose the camshaft pulley. With the front end on stands and the transmission in neutral, you will then be able to turn the crankshaft pulley counterclockwise to see whether the cam and crank are still synchronized at TDC1.

In my opinion, it makes much more sense to check for spark and a snapped timing belt before going through this procedure of checking the mechanical timing. Just my 2 cents.

Simple. Remove all of the valve cover bolts and lift the valve cover up.
