Default 6th gen Civic EX ECU

Is the 6th gen Civic EX ECU programmable? How do I get it out of limp mode?

Do you know what problem triggered the ECU to default to limp mode? It may be important first to address this problem, if known.

Otherwise, you could try resetting the ECU by removing the 7.5A BACKUP fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box for 10 seconds and then reinserting it.

I think it may be the aftermarket air filter. The check engine light is on.

Before resetting the ECU, you should retrieve the CEL trouble code(s) as described here:

http://www.c-speedracing.com/faq/06.php

A link at the website above lists the meaning of each CEL code. Post your findings if you would like more feedback.

Why do you think the air filter is causing the problem?

When I bought the car the only aftermarket part under the hood was the air filter. Thanks for the link.

The CEL code in the ECU may reveal a different problem.

By the way, do you think the ECU entered the Fail-Safe or Back-Up function (see picture)?

1. Read codes and write them down. Do not act right away because sometimes codes get set falsely and they are remembered for a long time.
2. Reset the ECU and test drive.
3. If the CEL comes back on or it stays in limp mode, read the codes again and resolve the problem causing the code. The codes you see now that were also present in step 1 are most likely due to real problems.

I completely agree with mk378's advice.
