2007 painful headrests - what to do??
Hi Folks,
Just got back from the dealer today and my wife and I are very close to buying a 2007 Civic LX, 4-door. My only real concern is that the headrests tend to angle forward, causing my head to bend forward at an awkward angle. I've tried adjusting the headrest up and down and find it at all points painful.
Has anyone ever replaced their standard headrests? Are there any options for doing so? I have a couple of bulging discs in my neck, so any ideas would be much appreciated!
Many thanks,
--Scott

Hmmm, I'm not quite sure if this will help you at all but, head rests on almost all vehicles are designed to have the top on the headrest meet the middle of the back of your head.
If that didn't make sense try it this way. The middle of the back of your head should rest against the top of the headrest.

I saw one of the seats torn apart as part of a safety exhibit at the detroit auto show this year. The whole seat is full of all kinds of airbags and sensors... it's designed that way for a reason. I didn't know it would be so uncomfortable though... haven't sat in one for long myself. The reclining thing sounds like it might work...

I'd like to point out that they're head restraints. They're meant to keep you from breaking your neck in a collision; not to be the most comfortable things ever. Actually, you really shouldn't have your head back that far while driving in the first place (unless your seat is close to vertical, in which case you just need to recline your seat); ask a drivers' ed teacher.

I would look into buying another car if this isnt comfortable for you. Almost all cars have this type of seating, but the way the rest of the seat is designed could make it more of an uncomfortable thing for you versus someone else. There is really nothing you could do besides alter the safety of the car, so I would say look for a different car.
