Default 2004 Ford Windstar evap problem

I am trying to help a friend with their van but i don't have any diagnostic tools or system maps...They had their evap system fixed a year and a half ago and it started messing up about 6 months ago and they found a large hose leaking under the dash..they fixed that and now the CEL is on again showing large lead in the evap system...Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix or look for the problem?

As stupid as it sounds i would check the gas cap before going into anything more expensive.

The standard test for this is to use a machine that blows artificial smoke into the gas tank and see where it leaks out.

A simple check here is to turn the headlights on and try to start. If the lights go very dim or off, battery is bad or bad connection. If the lights don't dim much at all, bad starter. Could also be a seized engine, that would load the battery considerably but it wouldn't turn. If you have a voltmeter you could get some more precise results.
