lol, if i would have seen this a little sooner, it would have saved you a lot of time b/c a broken fuel gauge unit was what i was going to suggest. as a matter of fact, i need to replace my silverado unit soon, because it's a pain tracking mileage.

Well didn't take that long.. the car was already at the dealership getting checked out as I was posting!

But why did they have to replace they entire cluster just for the fuel gauge?

probably because they sell the whole cluster unit as a whole, and the system won't let them split up the order: like such...

Makes sense... but the thing I was surprised at, and maybe I am naive, was that the odometer was back at zero on the new cluster. I always thought that the odometer reading was stored on the car computer and just displayed on the screen, I didn't know that it was stored in the cluster itself.

On the surface, I don't care that the odometer is at zero, they also placed the sticker on the inside of the door. It concerns me for resale, wouldn't it affect the value if people are uncomfortable with it? I would assume that it wouldn't affect a trade in though....

it could affect your trade in value but it might be against the law for them to change the odometer reading on your in the first place. so this might be the only default and legal way they can handle this.

i sure hope that the dealer signed the sticker so that it is clear that the dealer replaced the cluster hence restoring the odometer reading back to 0.

the sticker should not affect your trade in if you do so with a dealer since the dealer's name is on the sticker.

it could possibly affect a private sale however depending on the buyer. some might stay away from it altogether.

no, the odometer reading is store in the cluster i believe. and i believe the dealer can up the mileage on the new cluster to match, but they can't rewind it.

The dealer said they can't up it, maybe they are jsut lazy though... I don't really care much, just as long as everything is working!
