2000 honda civic ex tranny probs
first off im new to the honda forum and to the import side of the house. i just purchased a 2000 honda civic ex 2 dr 4spd automatic tranny with 134000 miles on may 4 2010 and today may 5 2010 with 29 miles later, drove it and had seen or felt no probs with drivetrain. got tags and ins and was getting on freeway w car on cruise on 65 and poof rpms shot through the roof, wouldnt go anywhere, pull over check tranny fluid, full of fluid, try to put in gear, nothing, shut car off and wait a few min and started, this time went into gear, the car did this about 5 times. on my way to a garage to have it looked at the check engine light comes on and dies again. they check the codes and the p0730 code i think thats what it was comes on, shows the gear ratio incorrect i think, they say the tranny it shot. do they have probs with the tranny on these years or did i just get a bad lemon. and where online or around chattanooga tn can i get a new or rebuilt tranny at a reasonable price without breaking the bank. thanks for all the help

im not sure on the recall but id think if its recalled they would fix it free of charge ,..but i could be wrong ,.............id change the fluid first about 2 to 3 times in a row and see what that does the code could be one of the solenoids error ing due to being clogged ,.....but if i where gonna have it rebuilt or replaced id have a 5 speed dropped in and be done ,..........maybe mk or rj or one of the other smart ones can give there input to maybe help a bit better than i can ,..........i cant even get my own problems worked out lol......................good luck

Honda automatic trannys are the weakest link in the honda drivetrain.
I'm sure you didn't buy a lemon. What happened was bad timing.
Did you buy it from a dealer or friend?

ive thought about the 5 speed swap, how hard would it be to do it, i know the clutch pedal and slave cylinder and manual tranny, what else would i need, depending if i can find someone local to do it and the price i might do that and i bought it from a individual
