1992 civic ex ac problems
So my girlfriend bought a civic and the ac need a recharge. So we replace the old r12 with a 134a freon. We made sure that the r12 was release before adding in the new stuff. The Clutch will not engage on the compressor. Does anyone know how to test the compressor?

Check the condenser fan fuse (under-hood fuse box). If it's good, check the compressor relay next to the driver's side headlight. Also check your wiring.

An R12 A/C system must be converted to an R134a A/C system prior to recharging with R134a. Was this done? Does the condenser fan run when you push the A/C button?
The A/C system does not have its own computer but does require a functional ECU for the compressor clutch to engage.

These cars can work well on R-134a but must be properly converted. Professionals call the "convert and charge" kit in a box the "death kit". It should not be used. You need to at the very least remove the compressor from the car and change the oil in it, and replace the receiver drier. Then evacuate the system with a vacuum pump and charge with about 18 oz of R-134a.
I wonder though if you had a good working R-12 system with an external electrical problem. When you push the button with the engine running and the interior fan on, the condenser fan should start. That will happen whether it is charged or not. Then, if the system is not completely empty of refrigerant (pressure at least 50 psi) the ECU will increase the engine idle slightly and engage the compressor.

Man... A lot of good information here. What I did was I had the " conversion kit because it probably had r12 in it. I had the r12 drained, then I add the " kit" to it. It was working for a bit till the compressor stopped and it would go any more. I probably have to replace the condessor. But I will test everything you guys recommended first before buying a condessor.

Ac problems
I also have a 1992 honda Civic, bought it wrecked. Ac not working. Has freon, but fan not working. No power . Checked fan, fan is good. Checked compresser, loose when i turn it. doenst ingauge when i press ac button.
