1989 Honda Civic Temperature Gauge Problem
For my son's 1989 S Honda Civic first the temperature gauge went up and down for time to time. Now it is going up only.
I took it to my Mechanic, he says that the problem is due to Engine Head Leaking and he wants $850.00 + to fix the problem.
I told my son to turn the heat high and run the fan, he said when he did that the temperature gauge is coming down.
The radiator fan is seem running fine. I don't know about engine thermostat.
Can I fix this temperature problem without the Engine-Head job?

First thing to do is with the engine cold, open the radiator cap and make sure it is completely full. Once you have the system completely full, start the engine (cold) with the cap off and rev it. If a bunch of bubbles or liquid blow out, there is a problem with the head gasket. The gasket is only about a $30 part to do it yourself, assuming the engine is not cracked or warped from overheating.
