04 Civic goes "clunk"
Hello all, Im at a bit of a loss so I'd appreciate any advice yall might have in regards to this:
My 2004 civic goes "clunk" when i speed up or slow down. (its just a singular clunk, its not repetitive) Its a MT, so this has occured in various different gears and when im slowing with the clutch disengaged.
Sounds like a motor mount problem right?
I replaced the front motor mount and i looked at the back one, it didnt have any real signs of wear - no cracks or anything. (how do you really tell if a motor mount is bad?)
I dont think its the CV joints as I have been told there should be a clicking noise as i go around corners if that was the case.
any other suggestions?
one of the mounts on the driver's side is missing a bolt (bolt was stripped out), but its not a torque mount so I don't think that matters too much..
also: the car has been in a wreck with front end damage (but its been repaired now - ill admit, it was a salvage but i got it checked out and was given the thumbs up before i got it)
tia

RE: 04 Civic goes "clunk"
Double check the CV axles and front end suspension components for excessive free play. You may want to put a bolt on that mount nut. Could also be a transmission problem. Have you checked the MT fluid level?

dang, i think you got it RonJ,i went out there and shook the tires (on a suggestion from another site) there was a lot ofshimmy on the driver's side, much more then there was on the passenger side.
so im going to replace the outer tie rod ends and see what happens...
I havent checked the fluid, to tell you the truth I wasnt sure you could do that in a MT, but after looking on the internet i see it is possible, but i dont think its the transmission because i cant feel anything in the shifter when it clunks.
