Could be the compressor, possibly just needs a freon shot.

hey thank you for your response, she just added freon yesterday and is still doing the same thing. would it be possible that the compressor is going out? but then why would it only work when the rpms are up? any one heard or have this problem? i'm going to mess around with the relays and see if it changes anything. once again thank you for your response

A lot of times, as long as it is idling you won't get the coldest air until the car starts moving. Try putting it on recirculating cycle sothe air cominginto the system is already chilled that seems to help me.That seems to be going answeraround forums. There is no reason the compressor should be dying this soon.

The fans under the hood must run for the A/C to work while sitting still. When the car is moving, air will be forced thru the condenser regardless. So if it is a situation of working when moving but not when sitting still, check the fans.

Thank you, I'll check the fans, but then again what should i check for, A friend of mine said it could be the pully system or the clutch on it. could that also be the problem. as for the fans, i guess i can only check if they are on when the car is at idle. thanks again.

I think you should check if the fan for AC condensor is turning on. I just found out my Civic is acting the same way except my compressor clutch is switching on and off at idle because the fan wasn't turning.
The fan should be on when the AC is on.

Try cleaning the crap out from the condensor (behind the grill infront of the radiator). Try blowing it out with air or use a garden hose, if you have restricted air flow that could be your problem right there. If not its going to be a compressor or a low charge (maybe not if they charged it correctly).

GWL... you might want to check the charge in the system, it chouldn't be cycling on and off a lot at idle, just a few times a minute. The fan gets turned on bye the a/c when the clutch is kicked on.

First check if the fan is turning on at all. There are two fans, so make sure you are checking the condensor fan. As soon as you turn the A/C on, the condensor fan should turn on. If the fan does not turn on, check the resistance on fan, if it is infinate then you need a new fan. The only other thing I can think of is that the compressor clutch isn't engaging so check to see that the compressor clutch engages at idle. But again, if the fans don't turn on, the A/C will not work at idle. The clutch may engage but within a few sec, the clutch will disengage again if the fan is not working.

I had voltage at the fan connector when I turn on the AC and the fan was not turning. This was easiest way to test it out.
