03 Civic - electrical short?
Hi Everyone,
I apologize if this is an exact repeat, I saw several similar posts.
03 Civic
*electrical problem
*a/c not turning on
I'm on my 3rd alternator in about 2 years. Replaced one due to total failure, then replaced second on su****ion of failure based on electrical warning light (free replacement under warranty). The warning light now comes on most often during shifting, and very rarely when just letting off the gas. Seems more common during hot/humid weather but that may just be a coincidence.
The a/c is also malfunctioning. The button lights up when I hit it, but the compressor doesn't come on. Doesn't turn on as part of defroster either. I don't necessarily care about this as much, but thought it may be related.
Any suggestions for tests or fixes would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

RE: 03 Civic - electrical short?
Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for rebuilt alternators to have a short life span, so I suspect that the alternator may again need to be replaced. In this case, you may want to give consideration to purchasing a new alternator. Also check whether the belt for the current alternator is tight. Before doing any alternator work, however, clean the battery terminals and connectors thoroughly and make sure they are tight. Also inspect the important battery ground wire connection to the engine bay frame. Clean any corrosion and make sure it is tight.
As for the A/C problem, start by checking whether the fuse for the A/C compressor clutch is blown.
