And how are you starting the 64-bit setup program? Does the CD auto-run when you place the disc in the drive? Or are you starting it manually?

the cd does not play auto. i have to got to my pc and try to run it there but i get the msg that i posted.

its not a copy, i got it from microsoft. i ordered it. let me see if i can get a SS here

That's what I meant...when I say "copy" I mean like a copy of a book...not in the sense that you copied another cd.

Did you look at the readme file to ensure you got the version you ordered?

On a side note...is your BIOS configured to handle 4GB+ of memory? Although many motherboards support 4GB or more, it make not have the feature enabled by default.

XP 32bit supports up to 4GB Like asdfbrendan said, your bios may not be set to read 4gb's of ram. and IMO 64bit operating systems are pointless, cause you probably wont be able to use half the programs you have right now.
