I do everything I dont need a special machine for, like coolant flushes, alignments, tire mounting, machine work, and ATF flushes.
I hate opening trannys too, but this summer I might be rebuilding mine, but I have a pretty good guy to do it if I dont want to burn the extra time. I know he can get it done in a day or two, but I know i might take a few weeks to learn it. maybe ill do one of the SOHC trannys I have sitting around for practice.

I work on my car with a couple of my friends. If its to tough like any interal parts ie. crank shaft, cam shaft.... anyhting like that its going to the shop. I just got my carbon fiber hood and tein hood dampers today and already installed them. It took 10 minutes for the hood and about 15 minutes for the dampers.

I like this kind, since it has a resevoir beneath it that once the oil is into, it wont spill.

RE: Who here does their own work on their car
I do all the work myself, or with the help of my step dad, who happens to be a mechanic
i replaced the CV axles myself, but the only thing i don't know how to fix are the engine itself, transmission, and the drum brakes [:@]
