Because the reliability and quality of GM cars is not like it was in the 80's which I will admit GM's quality did in fact drop off then but then again in the early to late 80's ALOT of companies quality went in the tube. As of now GM, Ford, and Dodge are right up there in quality and reliability. I have a 13 year old 130k+ GM performance car that has had 1 replacement clutch and that is it. Still runs like a champ, still stomps any mass produced honda into the ground in the 1/4 mile and will hold it's own against a S2000 around turns.
Got a 43 year old GM car that even being carbed cranks first try every time, dont use a drop of oil, and turns as many heads as a NSX.
I am a admited GM fan. I dont try to shove it down peoples throats but I will not let people bad mouth them blindly because 95% of what you hear is bull****. This is coming from a person that has owned 14 or so GM cars/truck ranging from 1964 models all the way to 1994 and I have never had one blow up on me and that includes the 500+hp pump gas 1/8 mile car I had when I was 16. It for the most part depends on the owner taking care of their car.

I have a 2005 cobalt ss/sc thats my daily driver. I've never had a problem with it. Clutch has never slipped which seems to be what most people complain of with this car. Its just a nice daily cruiser for me.
edit: I put about 20,000 miles on it.
